MINI Supercharger Service in Seattle
The first generation of new MINI coopers are beloved quirky vehicles. With vehicles becoming ever larger and more computerized, these aging MINIs are becoming quite desirable. Out of all the first generation new MINIs, none are more desirable than the R53 Cooper S and Cooper JCW. Featuring a unique supercharged engine, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face when driving.
Additional Maintenance Requirements for Superchargers
With the inclusion of a supercharger comes yet another lubricating fluid to keep tabs on. The supercharger oil is responsible for lubricating the gearset that drives the supercharger impellers. Like any other oil, it wears out with time and usage, losing its lubricating and protective properties.
When researching proper maintenance habits for your supercharged MINI, you’ll find much conflicting information. It can be difficult trying to sift through the vast internet knowledge pool to find the correct information. This is why we at Precision Motorworks have to look directly to the source to ensure accurate info. R53 MINIs use an Eaton M45 supercharger, Eaton offers no ambiguity in terms of service recommendations for their superchargers. There is only one type of oil that can safely be used in Eaton superchargers, however this oil is licensed and branded by multiple automakers. BMW, Audi, General Motors, Ford, Jaguar, and Mercedes all distribute the same Eaton supercharger oil at differing price points.
How Often Should I Service My Supercharger?
While neither MINI nor Eaton quote a direct recommended service interval, we recommend servicing the supercharger whenever it is removed for ease of access, or between 50,000-70,000 miles. A shortened service interval is recommended with heavy use or modification.
